24 Marriage Devotional: Building a Godly Marriage: Husband, Wife, and One Flesh in Christ

Show notes

About This Episode What makes up a godly marriage? In week 24 of our 30-week devotional series, Aaron and Jennifer Smith open 1 Corinthians 12 and Paul's picture of the body, where many parts form one whole, and apply it to the one-flesh union of husband and wife. Individual but never independent, each spouse brings a part the other cannot. Aaron unpacks the husband's role as leader, protector, and foundation of the home, sharing research on how a father's presence gives children security and how a husband holding his wife's hand measurably calms her. Jennifer highlights the wife's part: a body designed to bond and nurture, and the power of a mother to set the temperature of the home. Together they challenge husbands tempted to check out, warn against jealousy between spouses, and encourage couples to play to each other's strengths so that when one suffers, all suffer, and when one is honored, all rejoice.
