10 Tips for Traveling as a Family

About This Episode We share our experience of traveling with young kids and give our best ten tips for making family trips the best they can be. Traveling with little ones is very different from traveling with just your spouse, but we want to encourage you not to fear it. Being prepared is one of the greatest ways to make a family trip extraordinary. We walk through packing light, healthy snacks, backpacks for each child, the essentials we never leave without, and why we bring a pack-and-play our kids already know. We also talk about attitude, not pushing limits, remembering that kids are kids, and seeing your traveling family as a witness to the world, plus a fun tip for your return journey home.

In This Episode Pack light — Pack, unpack, and repack with less. Snacks and extras — Healthy, non-sugary snacks and an accessible bag of extra clothes. Kids pack their own bag — Giving each child a backpack to carry, with a surprise tucked inside. Essentials are essential — Spot treatment, Dr. Bronner's, a first aid kit, and a familiar pack-and-play. Don't push your limits — Knowing when to stop instead of stretching everyone too far. Get your perspective right — Setting your heart before you leave, because kids remember how it felt. Kids are kids — Extending grace and keeping expectations realistic.
